The Cambridge Citizens Coalition encourages the City Council to select a new manager with excellent training, experience and a proven track record, as well as someone willing to: 

• Balance commercial, residential, and environmental needs 
• Work collaboratively and in a transparent way with community members and City Council.
• Hire highly qualified staff who also will work collaboratively and transparently with community members.
• Support data-based decision making, using a range of resources like the Cambridge Community Foundation 2020 Report to address core issues including equity and inclusion in areas such as education (the main reason we need universal pre-K), building financial equity for those in need (why we need to help residents in need to purchase homes via down-payment guarantees and other means such as land trusts), and creating broad community-wide access to green spaces, grocery stores, transportation, internet in affordable housing developments and other contexts.
• Bring the major employers to the table (including the City itself) in addressing our major housing and transportation concerns, looking beyond the current borders of the city in addressing these on both a local and area-linked basis.
• Prioritize policies that promote smart, thoughtful holistic planning that emphasize a balance of residential, commercial, and environmental needs with respect to zoning benefits, and at the outset rather than as an afterthought, while also respecting the historic value and sustainability of the existing architectural fabric and our unique neighborhood legacy. The tree canopy, green spaces, overall and localized density, and transportation issues such as parking are all part of this.
• Consider and deploy creative tax policies and other means to tamp down on investor-linked vacancies and tenant displacement, while also creatively promoting local businesses, including those owned by women and minorities.
• Play a leadership role in promoting civic discourse in social media and other venues to discourage attacks against individuals serving on voluntary boards and/or residents speaking in these and other public venues. In selecting residents to serve on committees and in other considerations related efforts could be taken into account.
• Assure the existence of necessary infrastructure to support newly anticipated development with regard to electricity, water, sewer, roads, city transit,  and other needs, including fire stations, schools, libraries. This person should also be willing to help finalize and follow a City Plan, including addressing the 2030 Envision Goals. 
• Promote the use of embodied carbon (the carbon released into the atmosphere through the harvesting, production, and transportation of materials) in prioritizing the adaptive reuse of existing materials, while also supporting the long trajectory of our still sustainable buildings.
• Comprehend and address present and future lab impacts - the demands, precautions, danger of the different BSL Labs throughout the city and in the pipeline, along with the mechanicals required and the regulating federal requirements.   
• Support Inclusivity. A majority of residents of Cambridge will be over 60 by the year 2030. Their needs as well as those of younger residents, renters and home owners, as well as those less fortunate of any age must be part of our efforts for greater inclusivity in addressing city needs.
